Why Grade A
Lobes tocartilage.
Whether it's your very first lobe or the next piece of a curated ear, an ear piercing is small but permanent, and placement matters. At Grade A Tattoos & Body Piercing, Fort Wayne's tattoo shop since 1999, our certified piercing professionals look at the shape of your ear before recommending a spot, so the jewelry sits naturally and heals well.
Every ear piercing includes high-quality starter jewelry, a clear explanation of the procedure, and aftercare instructions. We work with sterile, single-use needles and hospital-grade autoclave sterilization, and we stock implant-grade materials only: titanium (ASTM F136), 14k and 18k solid gold, niobium, and surgical steel (ASTM F138). All of it is nickel-free.
If you're comparing places to get an ear piercing in Fort Wayne, IN, the biggest differences are the jewelry and the follow-up. We never use plated or mystery metals, and if anything comes up while you heal, troubleshooting and jewelry checks are complimentary.
Healing times
Ear piercingmenu.
Every piercing includes standard starter jewelry. Healing times are typical ranges and vary from person to person.
Earlobe
The classic first piercing — and the easiest place to start a stack.
Helix
Upper ear cartilage. One of the most versatile cartilage placements.
Tragus
The small flap of cartilage in front of the ear canal — subtle and clean.
Conch
Inner or outer conch for a bold, centered statement.
Daith
Through the innermost fold of cartilage above the ear canal.
Industrial
Two holes across the upper ear connected by a single barbell.
Cartilage vs. lobe
Which ear piercingis right for you?
Earlobe piercings
Lobes are soft tissue, heal in about 6–8 weeks, and are the most forgiving placement. They're the natural choice for a first piercing, a second or third lobe, or matching sets on both ears.
Cartilage piercings: helix, tragus, conch, daith
Cartilage piercings give you more styling options but ask for more patience. They take months rather than weeks to heal and are more sensitive to pressure, snagging, and sleeping on them. If you lie on one side, consider piercing the other ear first.
Industrial piercings
An industrial is two cartilage piercings joined by one barbell, so it needs the right ear shape and the longest healing window on our ear menu (6–12 months). Your piercer will tell you honestly whether your anatomy suits it. Booking ahead is a good idea for this one.
What to expect
Your visit,step by step.
- Eat a meal beforehand and stay hydrated
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your visit
- Bring a valid government-issued photo ID
- Choose your desired placement (or ask us to help)
- Plan around sleep — cartilage heals best when you are not lying on it
Pick your placement
Walk in or book ahead and talk through the look you want. Your piercer will check your ear anatomy and help you choose a placement that suits it.
Choose your jewelry
Starter jewelry is included in the price. Choose from implant-grade titanium, 14k and 18k solid gold, niobium, or surgical steel, with premium options at additional cost.
Mark and approve
Your piercer marks the spot and you approve it in the mirror before anything happens. Nothing is pierced until you are happy with the placement.
Pierce and review aftercare
A quick, precise piercing with sterile equipment, followed by an immediate walkthrough of how to care for your new piercing at home.
Aftercare
Healing yournew piercing.
Clean your ear piercing with sterile saline solution, wash your hands before touching it, and pat dry with disposable paper products. Don't twist or rotate the jewelry, keep it out of pools, hot tubs, and lakes while it heals, and watch for snags on clothing and hair.
Our full piercing aftercare guide covers the daily routine and signs that something needs attention. Questions about bumps or irritation are answered in our support center.
Some redness, mild swelling, and clear or white discharge is normal while a piercing heals. If you notice increasing pain, yellow or green discharge, hot skin, fever, or red streaks, contact our team or a healthcare professional right away. Don't remove the jewelry on your own.

Ear piercingFAQ.
How much does ear piercing cost in Fort Wayne at Grade A?
Every ear piercing includes standard starter jewelry. Pricing depends on your piece, so we go over it with you directly — call your preferred studio or stop in.
How old do you have to be to get your ears pierced?
You must be 18 with a valid government-issued photo ID. For piercings, minors 16+ may be pierced with a parent or legal guardian present with matching ID. Some piercings have additional age restrictions, so call ahead if you have questions about specific age requirements.
Do you pierce ears with a needle or a gun?
Our piercers perform every piercing with sterile equipment, and our studios use hospital-grade autoclaves and single-use needles. Ask your piercer to walk you through the process before you start.
How long does a cartilage piercing take to heal?
Cartilage takes much longer than a lobe. Our piercing menu lists helix and tragus at 3–6 months, conch and daith at 6–9 months, and industrials at 6–12 months. Healing varies from person to person, and a piercing can look healed on the outside before the tissue inside is done, so always finish the full healing period before changing jewelry.
Can I walk in for an ear piercing?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome at both Fort Wayne studios during business hours. If you want a specific piercer or a specialty placement like an industrial, booking ahead is recommended.
Can I sleep on a new ear piercing?
Try not to. Sleeping on a fresh piercing is one of the most common causes of irritation bumps. A travel pillow can help keep pressure off the ear while it heals.
When can I change my earrings?
Leave your initial jewelry in for the full healing period. When you are ready for a change, come see us and we will swap it safely. Browse our piercing jewelry page for ideas on healed-ear upgrades.
